Dining and dancing

Pattaya's continuing maturation as a destination for hip travellers is reflected in two new clubs -5 Supperclub and -5 Ice Bar

Dining and dancing

Pattaya has long been a weekend watering hole for Bangkokians and tourists, offering plenty of accommodations, great food, fun activities and most importantly a vibrant nightlife scene.

Two stylish new additions to the dining and partying scene are -5 Supperclub and

-5 Ice Bar at Amari Nova Suites, which offer fine dining, an ultra-modern lounge and unique clubbing experience.

Inspired by one of Bangkok's high-end night-spots, Bed Supperclub, -5 Supperclub is dressed in the exact same attire of pure white. The long, oval lounge and restaurant has white sofas, white walls and a white floor. The light is pleasantly dim. When the dance music is played, an array of colourful lights blink on and off.

The club is the perfect, cosy size, with ceilings that are not too high and the hall not too long and at the same time, not too stuffy or small. One cool thing is wherever you lounge in this club, you will always have this clear, seamless perspective of the whole room because the bar and the DJ booth is buried in the sunken pit about a metre below the dance floor. Neither the DJ nor the bartender is god in this club!

Asian-Western fusion cuisine is served daily from 6pm. A three-course dinner costs Bt950 while the four-course meal is Bt1,150. The menu changes every two weeks. An array of tapas at Bt450 for four selections can also be had for snacks. Drinks-wise, -5 Supperclub has a full bar with a string of vodka-based signature cocktails. Try refreshing Kiwi Secret (fresh apple, 42 Below Kiwi, lime juice, apple juice and syrup) and tangy and sweet Full Moon (syrup, lime juice, orange juice, 42 Below Passion Fruit). Standard cocktails are Bt160 while mocktails are Bt140. Small beers are Bt120.

DJ Caucasian from Los Angeles performs every night from 8 until late with his chill-out, house and deep house tunes.

If you grow bored of lounging, go across the lobby to -5 Ice Bar. Not just a few bricks of ice on a bar, every inch of this tiny room and its furniture are made of ice. And, of course, the temperature is -5 degrees. For a Bt500 entrance fee, you'll get a fluffy coat, a pair of gloves, and unlimited free 42 Below vodka shots within 20 minutes. The shots are served in shot glasses made of ice. By tradition, after downing their shots, guests should smash their glasses on the floor. The Ice Bar can accommodate up to five people at one time and you cannot stay in there longer than 45 minutes.

The clubbing area with seating and full bar is located right next to the Ice Bar. There's no cover charge.
