The Thai trails the Frenchwoman 1-4 in their head-to-head, but the inconsistent form of Mauresmo has sparked hopes for the Thai.

"I will do what I have to do to give her a good match. It will be tough though she is not playing at her best. I have to play smart consistently and try not to rush things,'' Tamarine said.

The only time Tamarine beat Mauresmo was in their first match at Wimbledon in 2001.

In the first round played on Monday, Tamarine ousted Angelique Kerber of Germany, world No 83,  7-6 (7/3) 6-4 in an hour and 42 minutes. Mauresmo, meanwhile, picked off Sabine Lisicki of Germany 7-6 (7/2) 6-3.

Tamarine had beaten Tunisia's Selima Sfar and Czech Eva Hrdinova  in the qualifiers for the main draw.
