More room at the 'in' place

The Pattaya Marriott's new Terrace Suites are certain to add to the hotel's already chart-topping popularity

More room at the 'in' place

The new Terrace Suites represent a fresh choice, ranking between sea-view room type and one-bedroom suites.

Among the recent debuts as Pattaya carries on developing is a new suite format at the Pattaya Marriott Resort and Spa. The long-established hotel has opened 25 ground-floor Terrace Suites, bringing its  total of rooms and suites to 295.

Marriott is a famous hotel brand that will doubtless have no trouble filling as many rooms as it can provide. The Pattaya inn gets more guests than any other hotel at its level thanks to the great location and top-class amenities, including the city's biggest shopping mall, right on its doorstep.

The new Terrace Suites represent a fresh choice, ranking between sea-view room type and one-bedroom suites.

The uniqueness of this format is the private balcony facing a lush tropical garden, and they're all just a short walk to the swimming pool and a shortcut to central Pattaya's Beach Road.

The Terrace Suites are decorated in contemporary Thai style and fully equipped with the latest entertainment technology, including an iPod-ready connection, a DVD player and a 32-inch LCD flat screen. Guests seeking an in-room wireless Internet connection will find a plug-and-play broadband service instead.

There is no separate living room, but the bathroom is actually arranged as though it were a spacious lobby, with double sinks, a huge bathtub overlooking a Zen garden, and a rain shower. It's pure heaven.

Marriott hotels always provide ample house-valet bathroom items, including mouthwash, toothpaste and a brush, a sewing kit and a comb.

The facilities are the big lure for foreign guests. The hotel is admirably self-contained, with a gym that's far better equipped than many stand-alone ones in the area. The Royal Garden Spa, managed by MSpa International, is outstanding.

And the buffet breakfast is quite grand, serving Thai and international food until 11am. The on-site restaurants are a branch of the Japanese steakhouse Benihana, and the Rice Mill, which serves Chinese food.

At the same time, the hotel does well in creating its own lively scene for quenching thirsts. The Irish pub is no longer there, but the new sports bar, More Bar & Grill, stays open until 2am and it's right next to the Royal Garden Plaza and opposite the new Avenue mall.
