Da Silva appeal dismissed as DFB upholds eight-match ban

Frankfurt (dpa) - The German football federation (DFB) on Monday confirmed an eight-match ban for Vragel da Silva from lowly Bundesliga club Energie Cottbus.

The DFB court dismissed an appeal from the club and the player against the original ruling, which also included a 10,000-euros (14,700 dollars) fine for da Silva who was found guilty of gross unsportsmanlike conduct.

Da Silva elbowed Gaetan Krebs from Hanover 96 during the teams' league match on December 14. The incident went unnoticed by the referee, but television footage showed the incident.

Da Silva is eligible to play again in the March 30 home match with Hertha Berlin.
