Devadason replaces Mee Har Foo, who was president and CEO for two years and has moved to Singapore as global head of consumer lending.
Most recently CEO of Standard Chartered Bank in Japan from 2003, Devadason has worked in a variety of top-level positions for the bank throughout the Asia-Pacific and in London over the past 23 years.
His previous Standard Chartered roles have included group head for offshore wealth management, based in Hong Kong; head of corporate and institutional banking in Thailand, in 2000; and head of global corporate banking, based in Hong Kong. During his time as CEO in Japan, he oversaw the expansion of the bank's traditional wholesale banking business, as well as the introduction of a new innovative wealth-management operation.
Devadason implemented corporate-responsibility initiatives in Tokyo and has also spoken on the subject of corporate sustainability. He was on the boards of the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan, the Japan-British Society and the International Banking Association.
"Under former CEO Mee Har Foo, Standard Chartered Bank [Thai] made excellent progress in building a stronger, more balanced, broad-based business," said Standard Chartered Bank (Thai) chairman Jaspal Bindra.
"We see good momentum in Thailand. The foundations for growth are clearly in place, and Mr Devadason, with his background, is well suited to lead the business to further success."
