DTAC profit up 18%

Total Access Communication Plc (DTAC) showed an 18 per cent increase in annualised net profit, with the earnings of Bt5.8 billion in the past year.

DTAC attributed the success to the historical increase in the number of new clients throughout the year. In the year, the company welcomed 3.9 million additional mobile-phone subscribers, raising its total subscriber base to 15.8 million.

Sigve Brekke, chief executive officer of the telecom company, noted that 2007 was a year of challenges as it was the first time that the interconnection charge system was introduced, aside from continued hike in oil prices, political instability and declining consumer confidence.

However, he hoped that consumers and investors would regain confidence after the formation of the new government. He also expected the mobile phone market to continue expanding due to more services.
