Ten people were injured when a boat towing five sand barges rammed into six fishing boats during heavy rainfall in Samut Prakan's Muang district yesterday morning, police said.

Police arrived at the Tambon Thai Ban pier at 10.30am to find 10 injured men - three seriously - on six fishing boats whose upper decks were damaged.

The initial estimate of the damage to the fishing boats was Bt3 million.

The tow boat, which fled the scene, was later identified as the Chokthongdee Wattana 3, on its way to deliver the sand to the Samrong Tai area of Phra Pradaeng district. Police later found the boat and are still looking for the captain.

Police suspect the heavy rain affected visibility, causing the tow-boat captain to stray from his route and ram into the fishing boats berthed nearby.
