Park Plaza goes hi-tech

The Park Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok is a "tech-savvy" hotel. The new hotel is equipped with "Opera" profiling technology for the benefit of guests.

As a supporting actor, if not the star of the show, Opera will be apparent at contact points, such as reservations, checking in and out, dining and room service.

With information flowing in, this tracking tool gives the hotel the ability to know and assist its guests.

"For example, if a corporate travel manager requests a Chinese-language check-in, an even-numbered room on the eighth floor and dining expenses to be listed in a separate report, Opera can easily handle all of these requirements and more," says the hotel's general manager.

This tool can even tell the hotel how you like your coffee - or if you tip the porters after they carry your suitcases.

Sweets for my sweet at the Nai Lert

Love is all around in February and so is chocolate and pastry at the Nai Lert Park Bangkok. The hotel is inviting lovers and chocolate lovers to try its creations at Gourmandises.

Milk-chocolate mousse and saffron biscuit, apricot and chocolate almond cream jalousie, pear chocolate pistachio tart, and more are created by executive pastry chef Frederic Verwerft. The sweet, yet romantic temptation is on offer until February 14.

The hotel is a short walk from Phloenchit Skytrain station.

THAI is the ticket for halal delights

Thai Airways International has been recognised by the Central Islamic Committee of Thailand for its halal kitchen standards, which meets the committee's regulations.

The parties signed an agreement recently. The airline is fully certified to ensure conformity with the permissible dietary requirements under Islamic law, and can use the halal logo.

The halal kitchen of Thai Catering Services operates separately from the regular catering facility at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The kitchen earlier received the Halal Food Certificate from the Institute for Halal Food Standards of Thailand.

Sri Lanakan's new man in Bangkok

Sri Lankan Airlines recently appointed Amitabh Anthonypillai as its new regional manager for Thailand, Burma, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

Based in Bangkok, Anthonypillai replaces Hussain Jayah, who moved to another senior managerial position at the airline's head office in Colombo.

Anthonypillai, 31, was a senior commercial analyst overseeing the Far East and Asia-Pacific region in Colombo. He is the airline's youngest country manager.
