Toronto's Kapono looks to repeat as Three-Point Shootout champion

Los Angeles (dpa) - Long-distance marksman Jason Kapono of the Toronto Raptors will give it his best shots in an effort to repeat as the Three-Point Shootout champion against five equally adept sharpshooters on February 16, as part of NBA All-Star Saturday Night at New Orleans, the league announced.

Kapono looks to become the first back-to-back winner of the competition since Peja Stojakovic of the Sacramento Kings repeated in 2002 and 2003. Stojakovic will return to the event representing the host New Orleans Hornets for the first time after finishing runner-up in the 2004.

They will be joined by Western Conference starter and 10-time All-Star Kobe Bryant of the LA Lakers, Daniel Gibson of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Richard Hamilton of the Detroit Pistons and two-time league Most Valuable Player Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns.

The players will participate in a two-round competition, featuring five shooting stations set up around the three-point line with four balls worth one point each and one coloured "money ball" worth two points at each location. Each player will have one minute to make as many shots as he can. The top finishers from the first round advance to the finals.

Besides the Three-Point Shootout, Saturday night also features the Shooting Stars Competition, the Slam Dunk, and Skills Challenge, leading up to the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night, February 17.
