Chinese NY spending at Bt16.4 bn

Spending in Bangkok during the Chinese New Year festival will reach Bt16.4 billion this year, up 5.1 per cent from last year, according to Kasikorn Research Centre.



 The centre expected sale of food and non-food items used in ceremonies to reach Bt4.6 billion, up 4.5 per cent year on year.

 Meanwhile, elder Chinese dessents are expected to put Bt6.4 billion as lucky money, or Ang Pao.

  Marketing activities in the city are expected to generate another Bt2.4 billion of spending.

 The remaining Bt2 billion will be generated by domestic trips, the centre said.
