New Govt's priority is to revive confidence

Kongkiat Opaswongkarn, chairman of the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organisations, suggested on Wednesday that the new government accelerate new investnent project, end capital control requirement and form up the capable economic team to solve economic issues.



He said that the government should introduce an economic package to rebuild the confidence of the foreign investor and take the lead in investing projects to stimulate consumption. The government should find ways to increase the public purchasing power.

 Apichart Sankary, president of Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA), noted that the economic ministers should be careful in implementing their economic policies. While citing that these individuals are closely linked to the Thaksin government, he said the Thaksin government was successful at implementing populist policies but created various problems.

 "The ministers should be cautious that they should not create new problems," he said. He urged the new finance minister to restore confidence the in the stock exchange as soon as possible, as the plunges have discourage travelling mood. Meanwhile, the energy minister should keep oil prices in control or if the grassroots people are negatively affected, it will kill the entire tourism industry.
