Worapoj gets better of Korean

Athens silver medallist Worapoj Petchkum cruised into the second round of the Asian Olympic qualifying tournament after disposing of South Korea's Han Soon chul at the Dhurakij Pundit University yesterday.

Warapoj, a Surat Thani native, and middleweight Angkarn Chomphuphoung have enhanced Thailand's chances of adding more spots to the five they secured in the World Championships in October.

The bout against the South Korean, who won silver in the Doha Asian Games two years ago, would have been the assignment Worapoj wanted to avoid in the first round.

However, the Thai made light work of Han to win 22-7. Despite the result, Worapoj said there was still room for improvement.

"I'm happy with the result but not my form. I was still slow but I should improve with more outings," he said.

Worapoj will next face Holmuratov Ulugbek and the Thai believes he could overcome the Uzbek without much trouble.

Athens gold medallist Manus Boonjumnong will launch his campaign against unfancied Bfarja Matoboreli of Jordan today in the light-

welterweight division.
