Another attack on troops

A roadside bomb yesterday injured seven soldiers in Thung Yang Daeng district of Pattani. A troop of 30 soldiers aboard a military transport vehicle was on its way for a change of guard when the bomb, hidden in a tree, was detonated.

Suspected militants hiding nearby then sprayed the vehicle with gunfire.

The battle raged for about 10 minutes before the militants retreated.

In another incident, in Krong Pinang district of Yala, a worker was shot dead in the early morning while working in a rubber plantation.

Police suspect two hidden gunmen fired at Maleekee Waekaji with a pistol.

Meanwhile, murder suspect Somsak Bounphet turned himself in to the police yesterday.

He is wanted for questioning over the killing of a young man in Betong in Yala on Tuesday.

Somsak, a volunteer security guard, chased Yongsak Dahatoh, 23, and then shot him dead after Yongsak drove his motorcycle through a security checkpoint.
