Explosion occurs in new Burma capital, 1 killed

Rangoon -- An explosion occurred in Burma's capital Naypyitaw early Friday morning, killing at least one person, according to local residents and civil servants.

The explosion occurred at a railway station in the eastern Naypyitaw township of Pyinmana around 42.0am and a woman died, they said.

The cause of the explosion, the first in the new capital, is yet to be known.

The junta moved its capital from Rangoon to Pyinmana, about 400 kilometers north of Rangoon, in November 2005 and named the area including Pyinmana as Naypyitaw.//Kyodo News
