He said diesel prices have dropped by almost US$2 per barrel due to the warmer weather in Europe. Chaiwat noted that this reduces the pressure on local oil retailers which originally planned to consider today to raise domestic diesel price.
Chaiwat said though the marketing fee of diesel is only Bt0.98 per litre, oil retailers can hold on for a while.
"We would monitor the situation next week. If diesel price continues the decline, we're ready to slash the retail prices particularly that of diesel," Chaiwat said.
Diesel price would be over the Bt30 per litre mark if raised by another 40 satang. At present, it is Bt29.74 per litre. Given that diesel is fuelling 60 per cent of vehicles in Thailand and the logistics networks, the increase is expected to send a massive negative impact to the economy.
