OVERDRIVE:

In memory of a beloved Princess

We hold our breath The passing of the Princess Has grieved our heart.

Published on January 4, 2008

We had prayed for her

Over months of deep anxiety,

With hope and despair.

The Thais showed unity

Of love to the dear Princess

During that uncertain time.

We mourn her passing,

Which has become a great loss

For the whole Kingdom.

Princess Galyani

Was a ray of glowing light

To all living Thais.

A sister of two kings,

Princess Galyani tendered her  love

To the Monarchy.

She loved her brothers

As a selfless Chakri sister,

In good times and bad.

She performed her duty

With true grace and elegance,

Never missing a step.

She was a shadow

Behind the shiny throne,

Ready to surrender.

She performed good deeds

Like that of placing gold leaves on

The Buddha statue.

To the Princess Mother,

She took the greatest care of her

With sheer gratitude.

When we were young,

Mom took care of and fed us.

In kind, we responded.

She devoted her work,

For more than half a century,

To all the good causes.

She had a noble aim

To improve knowledge, life and the health

Of all the Thais.

She worked long hours

Presiding over charities

Tending to the needy.

There now comes a moment

When Thais halt their animosity

Out of respect to her.

Her passing gives us

The sense to think of who we are

And where we come from.

Good, bad, rich or poor

We're all part of the big family

Of this great Kingdom.

In this Golden Land,

There lies the glory of tradition

Proud of its Siamese roots.

As we bid her farewell

We will always remember her

As our beloved Princess.
