Fewer ask for home watch

There are 421 home-owners entrusting their houses to local police protection in Bangkok during the New Year holiday break this year, which is down from previous years.

Published on December 29, 2007

Most are in the jurisdictions of Bang Na, Bueng Kum and Bang Chan police.

Many more owners joined the programme in previous years, and the lower number this year is thought to result from the ongoing economic downturn, as most people have chosen to stay at home rather than travel.

The military and police have set up a 1,266-strong security team that will provide constant patrols on Bangkok streets throughout the four-day period.
