Beckham believes Capello will be great success as England manager

London (dpa) - Former captain David Beckham says he believes Fabio Capello will be a great success as England manager.

The midfielder, who stands on 99 England caps, said the Italian had all the attributes needed to do well with the national team.

Speaking in a special BBC Radio 2 programme, to be broadcast on Christmas Day, Beckham said Capello was the ideal man for the job.

"Fabio is one of the managers players look up to and want to manage them. I hope I'll be part of his plans," he said.

"I think he is going to be great for the players and the England team."

Beckham and Capello fell out during their time at Real Madrid, when the former England captain announced he would be leaving to join LA Galaxy at the end of last season.

Capello initially said Beckham would never play for Madrid again but, impressed by the midfielder's work ethic, he changed his mind and Beckham played a major role in securing the Spanish league title.

"There were ups and downs with me and the manager at the time but he brought me back into the team and he had the belief in me to put me back in the team," Beckham said.

"It gave me an amazing end and I was sad when he got the sack as I believe he had turned the club and the players around and given the fans what they deserved, a trophy.

"I think he is a great appointment for England. Everyone wants someone leading you that has respect and success. He has definitely got that in his career."

Capello's first match in charge will be the friendly international against Switzerland at Wembley on February 6.
