THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN

Fame and failure

Only a handful of the many celebrities that ran for MP seats managed to win, including former actors Danuporn Punnakan and Natee Suthinphuak (Krung Sriwilai), former singers Pornpimon Thammasarn and Ekkapot Wongnak, former actress Nattaya Daengbu-nga and experienced newscaster Boonyod Sukthinthai.

Danuporn, Natee and Pornpinmon stood for the People Power Party (PPP), which won the most MP seats.

Ekkapot ran under the Chart Thai banner, while Nattaya and Boonyod stood as Democrats.

Being well known boosted their chances, but fame was just one factor in their success; the losing candidates were no less famous.

Among the losers were former actors Yuranan Pamornmontri, Sombat Metanee and Kowit Wattanakul, former actresses Supaporn Saengthong and Leelawadee Watcharobon, former news announcer Suparat Nakboonnam, former singer Arisman Pongruangrong, former boxing champion Sura Saengkham (Khaosai Galaxy), and former TV host Janista Liewchalermwong.

Yuranan, Leelawadee, Suparat and Arisman were fielded by PPP; Kowit and Sura by Puea Paendin, Sombat by the Pracharaj Party, Supaporn by Matchima Thipataya and Janista by Chart Thai.
