FTI foresees gloomy outlook

Federation of Thai Industries Chairman Santi Vilassakdanont showed concerns that economic confidence would be shaken no matter if People Power Party of Democrat Party secures the opportunity to form the new government.

He said if People Power Party forms the government, opposition could arise. In that scenario, the economy would suffer from lower confidence as the private sector is pursuing for a stable government who could ably lead the country out of tough times.

"Considering the voting results, it could pose some problems to national administration due to opposition or numerous demands. This could rock the new government. However, if Democrat Party becomes the core coalition party or becomes part of the government, opposition should be nil at the beginning. Still, internal conflicts could occur after a while," he said.

Santi noted that foreign investors are eager to know who would become Thailand's next prime minister. If economic ministers are accepted, it could help restore confidence.
