Why so glum?

Read the dialogue and answer the question below.

Man: Why so glum?

Woman: You know I had that job over at the Greek restaurant?

Man: Yeah! I remember you mentioning it as the reason for never going out with me.

Woman: Looks like now I'll have the time but I won't have the money. They let me go.

Man: How's that?

Woman: Business has been bad for quite some time. I know that for a fact; I mean, I see who comes and goes and it really hasn't been that great lately. And since it's a small family business, they have to cut costs.

Man: But wasn't them employing local people precisely the reason why they were allowed to immigrate in the first place? And after they bring over their entire family, the locals are getting the sack. That stinks!

Woman: Don't get xenophobic! They are really nice people and they have been treating me well.

Man: And you're not worried about what you're going to live on?

Woman: I am. But I was hoping to get a sponsorship.

Man: With your GPA? Good luck!

Woman: I'd rather study harder than move in with you!
