The Dusit District Court also ruled that Phaichit Tham-marojphinij, better known as Por Pratunam, continue serving the 18-month term after completing the 12-year term he was recently sentenced to by a Trat court for encroaching on public land.
However, the sentences will not be imposed on Phaichit until his appeals, submitted with two higher courts, are ruled on. Phaichit was told to lodge bail worth Bt600,000 before being released after yesterday's verdict, but put forward a land deed worth Bt1.5 million as guarantee.
According to information attached to the verdict, a police team led by then-police inspector-general Seripisut Temiyavej raided the casino early on February 4 and arrested 262 gamblers, seizing Bt500,000 in cash and tokens worth Bt52 million. Phaichit was found guilty for operating the casino and three other offences. He was jailed for six months and fined Bt4,000 for each offence.
