Led by hard-hitting captain Wilavan Apinyapong and Pleumjit Thinkaow, the Thai girls performed up to coach Nutthapon Srisamutnak's expectations. "It was an expected win. However, I think that Vietnam is also strong, but we have greater experience," Nutthapon said.

Indonesia beat Laos 25-11 25-13 25-11  for bronze.

In the men's team event, Indonesia  brushed off Vietnam 25-21 25-20 25-22 in the final showdown, while dethroned champions Thailand powered past Burma 25-14 25-15 34-32 to take the consolation third.
