Thai victory in software contest

A Thai student has won the grand prize in a worldwide cellphone-application-development contest called Open C Challenge, conducted by Nokia.

The company announced that Sittiphol Phanvilai from Bangkok was awarded a cash prize of US$10,000 (Bt336,000) for his winning MobiTubia application.

Sittiphol is a master's-degree engineering student at Chulalongkorn University, with a specialisation in computers. His MobiTubia is a Flash Lite video player and YouTube portal application with real-time decoding for the S60 mobile platform. It enables mobile-phone users to access fly clips using several different methods and browse and search for specific content on YouTube.

CSM office

Automotive market forecaster and strategic adviser CSM Worldwide has opened a new office in Bangkok, to support Asia's growing prominence in auto sales and production.

The office will serve as CSM's Asean hub, with responsibility for expanding analytical coverage for the company's global automotive-market forecasts and strategic advisory services.

"CSM Worldwide in Thailand will provide our clients globally with expanded and more precise coverage of the automotive market, due to having our analysts on the ground and operating within the region," said president and CEO Craig Cather.
