Steel growth bullish, says Thai Yuan

Thai Yuan Metal aims for growth of 20 per cent next year, in line with the industry's bright prospects.

Managing director Boonchai Jirapongtrakul said another other positive factor was continued high prices for steel because of global demand.

Next year the company will increase production of thin and thick steel sheets by 80,000 tonnes a year from a current 113,500 tonnes.

He added that the upcoming general election would restore investor confidence, while the current government made it clear it supported building mega-projects, all factors that would help boost the economy.

However, Thai Yuan plans to cancel increasing production capacity of steel pipes by 50,000 tonnes a year, given that Sahaviriya Steel Industries supplies lower-cost pipes and has also appointed Thai Yuan as a distributor.
