Flash floods from the Sankalakhiri Ridge between Thailand and Malaysia caused the Sungai Kolok River to overflow and flood a 50-kilometre stretch covering parts of three districts - Sungai Kolok, Sai Buri and Waeng.
The water level in the area ranges between 50 and 120 centimetres.
A large number of domestic fowl were drowned, though some survived by staying on the roofs of flooded homes. Villagers are using boats to travel and many areas have been cut off.
In Sukhirin district, 300 rai of farmland was under 70cm of water after the Sai Buri River overflowed its banks yesterday following four days of heavy rain in the province.
Narathiwat Governor Karan Supphakijwilekhakarn ordered all relief agencies on full alert and prepared for emergency evacuations if the heavy rain continued.
