At last, I now have some happy news from his battle.
NFL fans have good reason to celebrate after True Visions managed to secure four matches a week for its subscribers.
Not long ago, Barkdull was crestfallen after a lengthy discussion with the cable TV operator over the cut - which came after True announced more English Premier League matches to feed Thai soccer mania - seemed to have come to nothing. Then came a bolt from the blue. Flicking through the channels one day, he found something interesting.
Here is his message to True: "I accidentally found an unadvertised live NFL Sunday Night Football game broadcast between the New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills on channel 64 that started at 8.15 this morning. First I want to thank you for broadcasting the game. Now I wonder why the game was not scheduled in the electronic guide (it was scheduled to be a badminton game) or in your TrueVisions website guide. Is this live broadcast a mistake by a content provider and beyond your control or does someone actually know about it in advance? If you have prior knowledge could you please send me an e-mail or an SMS to my mobile phone when you discover you are going to broadcast an unscheduled NFL game. I will be able to act as your agent to get the word out so more fans can enjoy the event."
And here is True's answer: "As you know, we had planned to show four NFL games a week, but unfortunately as the licence was not mutually agreed, we have only two. However, in our ongoing efforts to improve our sports programme line-up consistent with the interests of our subscribers, Truevisions has now been able to secure the rights to four NFL games a week through the season. Instead of being shown early Monday morning only, the games will also be broadcast at 8 on Monday and Tuesday mornings." And True is kind enough to add that it's open to further comments, should Barkdull have any other suggestions.
This is kind of encouraging for all consumers. How often is the little man's request to a manufacturer/service provider actually met with positive action? A big hand to David! This week, you're my hero.
Still, I wonder how many staff True have assigned to handle customer complaints. They might need a few more if David's victory encourages others to follow suit.
