DHL Bangkok Lions head to Singapore

The DHL Bangkok Lions, made up of the cream of the city's young rugby talents, will leave for Singapore this weekend, hoping to repeat previous international triumphs.

Published on November 30, 2007

The Lions, who have enjoyed coaching sessions from the Queensland RFU and All Black star Jonah Lomu, will tackle some of their biggest challenges to date when they take on teams from Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia in the Manulife Rugby Tournament.

More than 20 junior teams from around the region will compete in the event.

The DHL Lions have a multinational squad of players aged between 8 to 14 years. They will travel south with parents and experienced coaches.

"We have never come back empty handed and I'm sure our players will be ready for this tough challenge," said coach James Crossley-Smith.

Lions spokesman Ahmed Fawzi added: "Good coaching is the key to success and we have recently completed our annual coaching clinic supported by leading experts from Australia. At the clinic, we invited a number of Thai coaches and students to encourage the proliferation of this game across the nation.

"We look forward to the day when every child in the Kingdom has the chance to play rugby."

Also sponsoring the Singapore tour are Halcrow and Benline Agencies. For further details see: www.bkklionsrugby.org
