voters can earn rewards for vote buying tip-off

People who accept vote-buying money will get a percentage from a fine imposed on vote buyers if they file a complaint with the Election Commission, PM's Office Minister Theerapat Serirangsan said.

Theerapat said the informants who turn as a state witness will not be charged for selling their votes.

A fine imposed on vote buyers ranging from 20,000 baht to 200,000 baht.

The measure was part of efforts to fight money politics. A recent survey has shown that two out of three Thais --64.6 percent of the respondents -- are quite ready to accept gifts or money in exchange for their votes in the Dec. 23 election.
