Ronnapi Nakham turned himself in to police in Chiang Rai's Muang district yesterday. The 22-year-old woman withdrew the complaint following the compensation agreement.

The tourist filed a rape complaint against an unidentified Thai man at Tambon Bandu police station on Thursday.

Tambon Bandu police chief Lt-Colonel Somkid Man-ngan said they managed to identify the suspect and asked him to turn himself in.

Ronnapi admitted to consensual sex with the woman after they had met at a nightclub on Wednesday night.

The suspect and the complainant agreed to end the matter with the compensation payment, he said.

The complainant has agreed to donate Bt20,000 of the compensation amount to the Foundation for Life and Social Development, which helped her following the alleged rape. She will settle her accommodation and transport expenses with the balance.
