HSBC appoints Tham as new Thailand CEO

Willie Tham has taken over as CEO of HSBC Thailand in place of Marcus Hurry, who has taken up a new position in the United Kingdom, HSBC said in a statement.

Tham will oversee the bank's Thai operations including corporate and institutional banking, global markets, securities services, trade finance, payment and cash management, and personal financial services.

He joined HSBC in 1985 and has served in a wide range of prominent international positions across the group.

In 2001, Tham was appointed area manager for Kuala Lumpur at HSBC Bank Malaysia, with overall responsibility for consumer and corporate banking. He was appointed chief operating officer of HSBC China in November 2004.

Born in 1961 in Malaysia, Tham graduated with first-class honours from Imperial College, London, where he read Civil Engineering.
