BMA to inspect gift basket dates

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officials will be checking gift baskets for the festive season to make sure retailers do not try to sell items past their sell-by date.

BMA Health Department director Somphob Sanidwongse na Ayudhaya said yesterday officials would conduct random inspections in shops in all 50 districts.

The BMA requires that goods in gift baskets should be at least six months from their expiry dates.

Content labels must be accurate, he added.

Customers must be able to return baskets up until February next year and department store logos must be clearly displayed, he said.

Baskets of perishables such as fruit and vegetables must be fresh and fit for consumption for three days.
