Police said a fourth bomb failed to go off.

Separately, in Pattani's Ban Bana, two students survived an attempt on their lives when gunmen fired several rounds after approaching them from behind on another motorbike.

The two Yala Technical College students were identified as Sorayuth Lonmarn, 22, and Maruth Kongkern, 19.

In Mae Lan district of the same province, suspected insurgents placed three fake pipe bombs along a rail line, causing officials to suspend train services for more than an hour until bomb squads were called in to inspect the items.
