EC secretary-general Suthiphon Thaveechaiygarn said yesterday Ellen Weintraub, a member of the US Federal Election Commission, voiced concern about possible overlap of responsibility between the EC and Sonthi's panel.
Suthiphon said he had explained to Weintraub that clear division of responsibilities had been made, with the Sonthi panel being charged with campaigning to increase public awareness about the perils of vote-buying.
Weintraub and representatives from the International Foundation for Election Systems yesterday called on the EC and met Suthiphon to discuss the poll.
