Democrats more popular than PPP

The Democrats are far more popular than the People Power Party among Bangkok respondents according to a recent survey by Ramkhamhaeng University.



Some 52 per cent said the Democrat Party was their favourite, followed by People Power Party with 13.5 per cent, the Chart Thai 4 per cent, Matchima Thipataya, 1.8 per cent, while Puea Pandin and Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana enjoyed 0.8 per cent each.

Some 20 per cent do not like any party and 7 per cent gave no comment.

The survey conducted on 1,464 respondents on Thursday found that 91 per cent of the total knew the election will be held on December 23, 70 per cent knew the advanced election day, 87 per cent said they watch television as the number one media in following up on election news, 36 per cent said newspapers, 20 per cent said radio, 11 per cent said the Internet, and 4 per cent said they knew about election from documents received in the mail.

Asked if they knew the number of their favourite party, 50 per cent said they knew, 34 per cent said they did not know, 12.7 per cent said they did not like any party so they did not care whether they knew or not.

More than half the respondents said they did not believe the number representing each party would affect the result of the election.

Less than 20 per cent believed either number 1 or number 9 would bring luck to the parties that the numbers represented, while only 2.7 per cent believed number 13 was a bad omen to the party it represented. The respondents said the politician's deeds would have more impact than the numbers in their chances of winning the election.
