Figo sidelined for two months after Nedved foul

Milan- Portuguese veteran Luis Figo Tuesday was to undergo surgery following a leg fracture suffered at the weekend during Inter Milan's classic match against Juventus.

Juve's Pavel Nedved hit the leg of the Inter midfielder in a rough foul, causing the break of Figo's fibula, the outer and thinner of the two bones in the lower leg.

Nedved reportedly called Figo on Monday and apologized for his from-behind foul, which cost him a one-game suspension as he was on probation after missing two games. The Czech playmaker is the same age as Figo and like him won a Golden Ball award.

The incident marred Figo's 35th birthday, while Inter face now serious problems in a midfield package already missing Serb Dejan Stankovic and Frenchman Patrick Vieira.

"I will undergo surgery to speed up my return as much as I can," said Figo, who had never before been operated on since he began his professional career in 1989 with home club Sporting Lisbon.

Figo is expected be fit to play for January 13, when the Serie A champions visit Siena after a three-week winter break.
