Celtics' Allen shoots down Raptors in OT

Los Angeles- For Boston Celtics sharpshooter Ray Allen, it was an open-and-shut play that broke the hearts of the Toronto Raptors.

Allen erupted for 12 of his 33 points in overtime, including his seventh 3-pointer of the game with 2.6 seconds remaining, lifting the visiting Celtics Sunday to a dramatic 98-95 victory.

After the Raptors knotted the score at 95-all on TJ Ford's 3-pointer with 4.4 seconds left in the extra five-minute session, the Celtics called a timeout to draw up the final play.

Allen received the inbound pass from Paul Pierce and buried the wide-open game-winner from deep in the left corner.

"That is exactly how we drew it up," said Allen, who was acquired in a draft day trade with Seattle in June. "Paul caught me wide open and KG (Kevin Garnett) set a great pick and I got a good shot. It was a great play."

Garnett scored 10 of his 23 points in overtime to go along with 13 rebounds for the Celtics (2-0) while Pierce finished with 13 points.

"We knew that it was not going to be an easy game," Garnett said. "TJ Ford got some big shots down the stretch, but Ray hit the biggest shot of the night."

Prior to the tip-off, assistant Tom Thibodeau stepped in for Celtics head coach Doc Rivers, who left for Chicago after receiving word that his father, Grady, 76, had died.

"Our thoughts are with Doc, and so that makes it special that we were able to win for him," Thibodeau said.

Ford carried the reigning Atlantic Division champion Raptors (2-1) with a career-high 32 points while Chris Bosh finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

"I knew it was going to be a night where I had to put up a lot of shots because they weren't leaving our shooters," Ford said. "We gave ourselves a chance to win until Ray hit that three."
