Minor's "Doing Good Deed for Dad" campaign - held in cooperation with the Thai Red Cross Society - is aimed at gathering more than 800,000 donated sweaters and jumpers over the next two months. The campaign also includes fund-raising to purchase and install water tanks at rural schools.
"Due to the fact that this is an auspicious year in which we all celebrate HM the King's 80th birthday, the group will take this opportunity to pay something back to society by taking part in the 'Doing Good Deed for Dad' project, which gives benevolence towards the children in rural areas along with the Thai Red Cross Society. The scheme supports two beneficial projects: water tanks for those facing the peril of drought and warm sweaters for schoolchildren in rural areas," said Patamawalai Ratanapol, chief people officer of Minor.
Patamawalai said the Minor Group realised very well the importance of paying something back to society.
The current project marks its first such participation, under the Esprit and Dairy Queen brands.
The company has chosen to support the water-tank and sweater projects in view of the poverty that many fellow Thais are facing. The donation of warm clothing for schoolchildren in rural areas is perfectly timed for the upcoming winter season, he added.
Minor chief operating officer Mathew Kidoharn said donation boxes would be located at 24 free-standing Esprit shops both in Bangkok and upcountry.
Customers donating at least eight sweaters will get a gift voucher worth Bt200. Vouchers worth Bt500 will be given for donations of 18 or more.
