Anti-coup activists urge PM to sack Sonthi

More than 100 anti-coup activists of the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship protested in front of Government House Tuesday morning.

They called Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont to sack General Sonthi Boonyaratglin as his deputy for security affairs.

The protest, led by Prateep Ungsongtham and Chinawat Haboonpad, also want Surayud to dissolve the government's special committee against vote-buying, which Sonthi is the chairman.

Sonthi, they alleged, involved with a plot, mentioned in classified documents revealed by Samak Sundaravej, to intimidate the People Power Party ahead of the December 23 election and block deposed premier Thaksin Shinawatra from returning to power.

If Sonthi was still in charge of the deputy PM post and the special panel, the forthcoming election would not be clean and fair, the protesters alleged.
