Martial law review to minimise areas affected

The Cabinet ordered a review to miminise the areas under martial law that was initially proposed to cover 27 provinces after deeming it necessary to curtial enformcement further if the security of each district was taken into consideration.

"The review should be done district by district so as to continue enforcing martial law in the least areas possible," Deputy Prime Minister Sonthi Boonyaratglin said.

The National Security Council, chaired by Sonthi, decided last week to propose a reduction of martial law areas from 35 provinces.

Sonthi said the decision to minimise the martial law enforcement was not linked to campaigning activities but to a security review.
