Pucay scales Mt Malarayat

Local hero Mars Pucay fired a final-round four-under-par 68 to win the Active Mount Malarayat Championship on the fledgling Asean Golf Tour yesterday in Lipa City, Philippines.

 He blitzed the Malarayat layout to snuff out the challenge from countryman and overnight co-leader Orlan Sumcad in the US$30,000 event.

Pucay posted a four-round total of eight-under-par 280 to win by three strokes from Rey Pagunsan, who closed with a 69. - Agence France-Presse

Norway's Suzann Pettersen shot an even-par 72 for a one-stroke lead after the second round of the LPGA Tour's Hana Bank Kolon Championship in Gyeongju, South Korea, yesterday.

Champions Tour rookie Mark O'Meara made a successful return to the site of one of his victories on the regular US golf tour, shooting an eight-under 63 on Friday to take the first-round lead in the AT&T Championship.

O'Meara had an eagle, eight birdies and two bogeys at Oak Hills Country club in San Antonio, the AW Tillinghast-designed course where he closed with a 63 to win the 1990 Texas Open.  - Associated Press
