Warrant for 'sex offender'

An arrest warrant was issued yesterday for Christopher Paul Neil, a Canadian teacher and alleged paedophile sought by Interpol and Thai police, who is believed to be hiding somewhere in Thailand.

Published on October 19, 2007

The Criminal Court approved a police request for the warrant, after police interviewed a Thai man who said Neil engaged in sex acts with him four years ago when he was 14. Neil faces charges for three alleged offences relating to statutory rape and child molestation under Thai laws.

Police also released a wanted notice with Neil's image. It described him as 175-cm tall and weighing about 70 kg.

The statute of limitation for any crime Neil may have committed on the unnamed Thai man is 20 years, which began at the time of the alleged offence in mid-2003. The incident occurred at an apartment where Neil stayed in Bangkok's Din Daeng district, said Pol Maj General Wimol Pao-in, chief of the Children, Juveniles and Women Division, who obtained the arrest warrant.
