Kerry Asia Road Transport launched

Kerry Logistics has established a cross-border transportation company named Kerry Asia Road Transport (Kart). Combining global and cross-border expertise, Kart will provide an ideal service to the region.

Kart commenced operations in July, operating more than 30 trailer lorries to provide seamless road-transportation services between Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. These services will be expanded next year to include Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and China. A Kerry Station will be opened in each country, providing a full range of services.

Kerry Logistics (Thailand) director and general manager Kledchai Benja-athonsirikul said the company's services would include door-to-door delivery.

With a Bt40-million investment, the new company will introduce a range of value-added services, providing customers with a comprehensive, full, one-stop-shop service ranging from manufacturing to the end-user and anything in between. Integrated Web-based information-technology systems will provide full visibility throughout the entire supply chain.

Kart expects more than 25-per-cent growth annually, excluding revenue to be gained from new "last-mile services" that will use Thailand as a hub for the entire range of its logistics services.

Mitsubishi exports millionth pickup

Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) last week exported the one millionth pickup from its Thai operation and is bullish that the success paves the way for becoming a world-leading auto-maker and for Thailand to become the Detroit of Asia.

"This success has not only proved the company's capability and potential in exports, but also shown that Thai-built Mitsubishi vehicles are of top quality," President Michiro Imai said in a statement.

The company exports vehicles to more than 140 countries worldwide.

A variety of events have been organised, including the introduction of the commemorative Million Edition Triton.

The company's first export model was the Mitsubishi Champ, which went to Canada in 1988. The company went on to export the Mitsubishi L200 Cyclone pickup to Portugal in 1989.

Over the years, all Mitsubishi pickup models the Cyclone, the L200 Strada and the Triton have been manufactured at the company's Laem Chabang Industrial Estate production base in Chon Buri province. Total pickup exports from Thailand last year numbered 133,109, while this year the target has been set higher, at 140,000 units.
