Good dog walking (not to be confused with 'Dead Man Walking')

Bangkok dog lovers: If you can just keep that thing quiet for a minute and stop brushing the fur off your clothes, we have news that will delight everyone who winces at the sight of a "no dogs allowed" sign.

It's a golden chance to take your golden retriever, or whatever that thing is, on an intimate stroll among the greenery of Benjasiri Park.

The Emporium mall's Pet-a-Porter canine carnival, subtitled "Pet Passion Week 2007", is tomorrow starting at 4pm.

No, you can't take your dog into the mall. Get that thing out of here and go to the park, where Apirak Kosayothin, the man who runs the city (mostly sideways, it has to be admitted) will issue it a "temporary visa".

Much to your pet's disappointment, the governor will be directing it straight to an area where the Thai Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Soi Cats and Dogs Rescue group will be serving up, not liver pate and roast beef sandwiches but ... wait for it ... free vaccinations!

That's right! The actual passion in Pet Passion Week isn't so much a cheerful romp in the park as it is teaching Mr and Mrs Dog Owner a lesson in being responsible.

Once Bowser has been cruelly jabbed with a needle, his master gets a Free Plastic Bag and a lecture on what to do with it the next time last night's doggie dinner makes its inevitable reappearance in front of the neighbour's house.

If you and Bowser cooperate and carefully read your Free Copy of "Dog Walking for Dummies" - and if no one gets bitten - maybe the city will open all the parks to fur-intensive visitors.
