Swede stuns champ Blake

Thomas Johansson upset top-seeded James Blake 3-6 6-1 7-6 (3) in the semi-finals of the Stockholm Open yesterday, snapping the two-time defending champ's 13-match winning streak in the tournament.

The unseeded Swede saved four match points in his last service games before winning the tie-breaker before a boisterous sell-out crowd. Johansson got an early mini break in the breaker and never trailed.

A former two-time champion in Stockholm, Johansson will face Ivo Karlovic in today's final. The hard-serving Croat beat Tommy Haas 6-4 6-3 in the other semi-final. - Associated Press

Langer sizzles

Bernhard Langer shot a 10-under 62 on Friday to take a four-stroke lead after the first round of the Administaff Small Business Classic in Spring, Texas.

The German, playing his fourth US Champions Tour event since turning 50 on August 27, needed only 24 putts to match the best round of the season on the tour. He had a 43-foot eagle try on the par-5 18th, but settled for his 10th birdie of the day. The two-time US Masters champion broke the Augusta Pines Golf Course record of 63 set by Jay Haas.

Tom Kite pulled within three strokes of Langer with a birdie on the 17th, but his bogey on 18 dropped him into a six-way tie for second at 66. - Associated Press
