The Honda sedan in which businesswoman Mayurin Maytheeworrathanont drowned is hoisted out of a pond.
Mayurin Maytheeworrathanont, the sole importer and distributor Ferrari cars in Thailand, was found dead in her Honda sedan after it was salvaged from the pond some 30 minutes after the incident. Two men who witnessed the incident said they dove into the pond to try to get her out of the car but could not.
Police said they were investigating why the car reversed even though the gear was in the "P" (park) position when it was salvaged. They did not say if they had ruled out suicide.
Quoting her husband and daughter, police said Mayurin, 67, usually had her chauffeur drive for her, but she was in a hurry yesterday morning and did not wait for him.
The two men who saw the incident said the car reversed at high speed and crossed a walkway and scraped a tree before plunging into the pond, which was about 10 metres deep.
