The Cultural Surveillance Centre recently held a seminar to give the 460 network members from 17 central provinces a better knowledge of the current cultural crisis.

The members were told to come up with ideas on solving the crisis of Thai youngsters adopting inappropriate foreign behaviour brought to them via media like the Internet, television and printed matter, said the centre's director Ladda Thangsupa-chai.

"There are lots of [cultural] problems and the ministry has tried to solve them systematically by bringing together culture monitoring networks to share ideas on solutions. We should launch a similar project in the remaining three regions of Thailand by next year," she said.

With regards to recent events concerning students, Culture Minister Khunying Khaisri Sri-aroon said most of the responsibility lay with parents and teachers, and that she would further discuss the issue with the Education Ministry.
