Some 100 rescue workers and 100 soldiers were dispatched Friday morning to assist flood victims in Tambon Chompu and Tambon Ban Moong, whose many villages were suffered one-metre-deep flood, causing many residents to be left stranded in their houses.
Heavy downpours in Petchabun mountain ranges caused water levels in Klong Chompu, Klong Nam Pad and Klong Ban Moong to overflow into the villages since midnight Thursday. The floodwater affected Ban Moong-Wang Yang Road and Kok Maidaeng-Noen Maprang Road, making them impassable to small vehicles, thus officials used a six-wheel truck to transport flat-bottom boats to assist marooned residents and distribute aid kits. A section of Wang Thong district's Phitsanulok-Lom Sak Road was also unusable for small vehicles due to flooding.
Disaster Prevention official Nimit Sattayatham said some rescue workers were deployed since Thursday night to assist Noen Maprang residents and five villages in Tambon Chompu were worst hit with 50-centimetre-deep floodwater and nearly 100 families were left stranded in their houses because of the floods.
Meanwhile, Phichit Governor Preecha Reungchan warned residents in Muang, Sak Lek, Wang Sai Phun, Thab Khlo and Dong Charoen districts which located near Petchabun mountain ranges to move their belongings to higher grounds, as the run-offs from upper-streamed Phitsanulok and Petchabun were expected to reach the province in the evening.
