Twins win first ATP trophy

Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana pinned a new chapter in the Thai tennis history by becoming the first Thais to capture an ATP doubles title following their astonishing final win in the Thailand Open at the Impact Arena on Saturday.

The twin brothers came from the first set loss to upset the third-seeded Michael Llorda and Nicolas Mahut of France 3-6 7-5 10-7 in front of the jubilant 8,000 fans after one hour and 10 minutes.

"I didn't know what to say. We reached our first ATP final at home and we won.  I felt warm and hopefully things will be better from now on,'' said Sanchai.

"I would like to thank everyone who comes to support us. I'd like to thank my family, my parents for always being there."

They took a cheque of US$26,550 for the championship. - Lerpong Amsa-ngiam, The Nation
