Prapassorn Phongphanpisan, TTM spokeswoman, said that the board requires that the new plant must be within a 1-hour driving distance from the head office. In the first year of operation, the 1,000 staff would not work at the new plant and they need travelling convenience between the two venues. Moreover, the short distance will also save the logistics cost.
She said that the location could be on the North or East of Bangkok, probably the land which is owned by the Treasury Department or state enterprises like the State Railway of Thailand or the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand.
"After this is finalised in October, we will propose this to the Cabinet for approval," she said.
TTM's new plant will produce 25,000 million cigarettes a year, but the maximum capacity could be expanded to 30,000 million. - The Nation
